Chelsio Announces Industry’s First 10Gb Ethernet Adapters for Unified Wire

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHELSIO ANNOUNCES INDUSTRY’S FIRST 10Gb ETHERNET ADAPTERS FOR UNIFIED WIRE

Broad Product Family Enables Virtualization of Storage, Clustering and Server Networking

SUNNYVALE, CA, NOVEMBER 14, 2006 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI acceleration adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced the industry’s first 10Gb Ethernet adapter cards that enable the convergence of storage, clustering, and server networking applications onto a single unified fabric.

Powered by the Terminator 3 (T3) ASIC announced in September, Chelsio’s new portfolio of adapters enable 10Gb Ethernet to replace disparate fabric technologies such as Fibre Channel and InfiniBand in a wide range of applications, including Network-Attached Storage (NAS) Filers, Storage Area Network (SAN) Arrays, Server Adapters, High Performance Cluster Computing, Blade Servers, Video Servers, Application Servers and Web Accelerators. The products announced today constitute the industry’s broadest 10Gb Ethernet adapter portfolio targeting all major market segments.

Chelsio is announcing three new product lines based on the T3 technology:

  • The S310/S320 Storage Accelerator product line consists of a broad range of iSCSI-enabled HBAs that deliver the best performance and high availability requirements for storage networking and unified wire applications.
  • The R310 iWARP Adapter product line consists of RDMA-enabled NICs (RNICs), targeted at low latency clustering applications.
  • The N310 Server Adapter product line consists of stateless offload NICs delivering the best price/performance in the industry.
  • The different product lines offer hardware and software solutions designed to meet the specific needs of each market segment, at the lowest possible price.

Delivering the Unified Wire is a critical milestone in the mass adoption of 10Gb Ethernet, said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio. As much as the purveyors of Fibre Channel and InfiniBand would disagree, Ethernet is the fabric of convergence for storage, clustering and networking. We have now successfully developed a broad family of products that deliver all the critical features, such as low latency, high bandwidth, and reduced cost, required for the convergence of storage, clustering and networking onto a single unified fabric.

Chelsio will demonstrate its T3-based adapters this week at the SC06 Conference in Tampa, Florida, booth # 2217.

The S310E, S320E, and S320X Storage Accelerators are designed to replace Fibre Channel in SAN applications and to accelerate filesystem access in NAS applications. Chelsio’s Storage Accelerators are the highest performance 10Gb Ethernet adapters available, and feature robust, high availability functionality, including advanced traffic management support. Chelsio delivers a complete bundled iSCSI hardware and software solution and broad range of connectivity options, including single- and dual-port network interfaces, PCI-Express and PCI-X 2.0/1.0 (266/133 MHz) host bus interfaces and short-range and long-range XFP optics and CX4 copper interfaces. These adapters not only run Fibre Channel applications unmodified, but they can also be used in clustering (RDMA) and networking applications. Pricing for the Storage Accelerators start at $1,495.

The R310E iWARP Adapters are RDMA-enabled NICs (RNICs), targeted to replace InfiniBand in low latency clustering applications. Chelsio’s RNICs run standards-compliant iWARP RDMA, and can run existing unmodified InfiniBand RDMA applications with similar latency and higher bandwidth. The R310E is available both with short-range optics or CX4 copper interfaces and runs over native PCI-Express host bus interface. Pricing for the RNICs start at $995.

The N310E Server Adapters are stateless offload NICs, delivering the fastest throughput for 10Gb Ethernet server applications at the industry’s lowest price point. The N310E is available both with short-reach optics or CX4 copper interfaces and runs over native PCI-Express host bus interface. Pricing for the NICs start at $795.

All adapters are sampling now and will be in volume production in January, 2007.

The T3 ASIC Delivers Industry’s Lowest Latency and Highest Bandwidth

The T3 -based solutions combine NIC, iSCSI Target and Initiator, industry-standard iWARP RDMA and TOE functionalities with integrated dual 1 GbE / 10GbE ports and both native PCI-Express and PCI-X 2.0 / 1.0 (266 / 133 MHz) host bus interfaces. T3 delivers the industry’s lowest latency and highest bandwidth, with full wire-rate 10Gbps at less than 5% CPU utilization. This enables it to run unmodified InfiniBand and Fibre Channel applications with lower latency and higher bandwidth, while delivering a lower total cost of ownership solution to the end user.

The T3 introduces remote management and value added features, such as traffic management, line rate classification and filtering, and virtualization on top of the core offload technology. These unique features enable the use of the T3 in various embedded applications, such as blade servers, video servers, application gateways and performance proxies, server and storage virtualization, SAN arrays and NAS filers. T3 is available now for volume shipments and is list priced at $445 for 10GbE and $345 for GbE applications.
