FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHELSIO DELIVERS FIRST STANDALONE iSCSI SOFTWARE
Enterprise-Ready Linux iSCSI Target 3.0 Available For Leading Storage Platforms
SUNNYVALE, CA, FEBRUARY 2, 2007 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI acceleration adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced its first standalone iSCSI Target 3.0 software, which enables enterprises to create high-performance and robust IP SANs using their existing Linux server and storage hardware.
The Chelsio iSCSI Target 3.0 can turn any Linux partition into a high-performance iSCSI target. This storage can be assigned to any computer on the enterprise Ethernet network, giving users a commercial-grade IP SAN instantly. Chelsio iSCSI Target 3.0 release adds key features that increase redundancy, scalability and robustness and enable advanced Ethernet-based storage applications in enterprise data centers with easy-to-use loadable software, using existing volume storage and server platforms.
Chelsio’s iSCSI Target software has set the performance standard in the industry and it matches well with our high-performance iSCSI arrays, said Barron Mertens, CEO of DSG Storage Inc. We are pleased to be able to offer Chelsio’s iSCSI Target 3.0 software as part of our IP storage solutions.
Our iSCSI Target 3.0 software will shake up the Linux storage market since it enables enterprises to cost-effectively deploy business-critical IP SANs using volume Linux hardware, said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio. This new release works extremely well across a broad selection of Ethernet adapter, but the software is optimized for use with our Storage Accelerator products to deliver the best performance and high availability requirements for storage networking and unified wire applications.
The Chelsio iSCSI solutions are designed for data intensive applications that require high throughput, such as video streaming, image processing and back-up. Specific applications include SAN edge devices such as storage arrays, storage-aware devices in the SAN cloud such as virtualization engines, and IP-based data centers built with blade servers.
The iSCSI 3.0 Target software supports a broad array of hardware and software platforms, including Chelsio T3-based Ethernet adapters and most third party Ethernet NICs. The software supports popular RAID, SAS, SATA and other storage devices and it supports various Linux kernel versions and distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Suse Linux Enterprise Server. The highly optimized iSCSI target stack provides support for greater than 2TB (Terabyte) disks, enabling deployment of very large disk arrays, back-up applications and high definition video server applications. The software also supports Microsoft Cluster Service for high availability applications and MPIO (Multi-Path I/O) for fault tolerance against single points of failure and load balancing of I/O data traffic for better application performance.
The Chelsio iSCSI Target 3.0 more than doubles throughput performance over Chelsio’s previous iSCSI Target 2.0 software release and is the highest performance iSCSI target software in the market. Chelsio’s iSCSI Target 3.0 is easy to use, loadable software and configuration is done using a simple graphical user interface. It is available now for licensing to qualified customers, and a demo version is available for customers to evaluate the software. The iSCSI Target 3.0 software has been tested from wireless to 10Gb speeds and is list priced at $495 per instance. Chelsio plans on delivering other components as part of a rich, full turnkey storage software solution during the first half of this year.
