CHELSIO ACCELERATES CONVERGENCE OF SANS AND LANS WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE 10GbE iSCSI ADAPTERS
Industry’s First 10GbE Adapter Card with On-Chip TOE and iSCSI Accelerator To Be Demonstrated at Storage World Conference 2004
LONG BEACH, CA, JUNE 29, 2004 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the emerging performance leader in 10-Gigabit Ethernet host-bus adapter technology, today announced it is demonstrating the industry’s first 10GbE iSCSI host bus adapter at the Storage World Conference 2004 here this week in Long Beach, CA. Chelsio is in booth #511.
Chelsio is the first 10Gb Ethernet adapter vendor delivering a 10GbE iSCSI and TCP (Transport Control Protocol) offload engine (TOE) in silicon, significantly raising the performance and latency bar for the 10Gb Ethernet host bus adapter industry. With the first 10GbE iSCSI adapter, Chelsio is delivering world-class storage performance over standard Ethernet, and providing the market with a real alternative to Fibre Channel.
The T110, a PCI-X-based host bus adapter, not only offers all the features of 10GbE NICs, but it offloads the TCP/IP protocol stack and CPU-intensive jobs of iSCSI from the host processor, freeing up CPU processing cycles for improved application performance. With the T110, Chelsio delivers both LAN and SAN traffic on the same card and achieves the industry objective of SAN/LAN convergence.
“We’re accelerating the convergence of network and storage applications using 10-Gigabit Ethernet technology,” said Kianoosh Nagshineh, founder and CEO of Chelsio Communications. “Simple, managed networks of integrated storage and network traffic will be made possible by 10-Gigabit Ethernet, and we are using this premier storage conference to demonstrate the latest advancements possible in the throughput, latency and scalability of these adapters.”
In the booth demo, Chelsio will show how fast storage devices can deliver data to clients or applications using the T110 HBA. Independent testing lab VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge (Nasdaq: LIOX), recently completed testing of the T110 and validated the performance claims in a report that will be available soon as a download from the Chelsio website.
Recent internal testing showed the T110 delivering an industry record 856 MBps throughput, more than double the throughput of any 4G Fibre Channel device in the market. The I/O per second (IOPS) measurements also set an industry record. IOPS measures how well a storage device can handle transaction-oriented workloads, for example, a database application that issues a lot of (small) transactions to the storage device reading and writing records. The T110 has been measured at 670K IOPS on a single iSCSI target, a huge leap over 2G and 4G Fibre Channel adapters.
The T110 is built with Chelsio’s Terminator ASIC, a deeply-pipelined VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word) architecture that delivers numerous high-bandwidth and low-latency advantages over RISC-based multi-processor system-on-chip imple
mentations. The Terminator ASIC has a capacity of one million sessions, while the T110 card can support up to 64,000 sessions. The card is sampling now, and is priced at $4,900 each in small quantities.
