CHELSIO COMMUNICATIONS EXPANDS ITS WORLDWIDE CHANNEL PROGRAM WITH DISTRIBUTION PARTNERSHIPS IN JAPAN

Leading 10Gb Ethernet Server Adapter Company Strengthens Its Channel In Major Market; Highlights Distribution Expansion Plans In US, Europe, Asia-PAC

SUNNYVALE, CA, OCTOBER 18, 2004 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the established leader in 10-Gigabit Ethernet adapter cards and protocol acceleration technology, today announced the first step in the formation of its worldwide sales channel by creating partnerships with the premier distributors, resellers and system integrators in Japan.

The Chelsio T110 10GbE Protocol Engine is the only 10Gbps Ethernet adapter providing full TCP/IP offload and iSCSI acceleration, and the Chelsio N110 10Gbps Ethernet NIC offers the best value for 10GbE connectivity. Both products are available in volume today.

“There is very strong demand in the high performance computing (HPC) market in Japan, and we have established distribution relationships with the top channel partners in the region,” said Eric Taborek, vice president of sales and marketing for Chelsio. “Our worldwide channel partner program will solidify the leadership of Chelsio’s 10Gb Ethernet server adapters. Our proven throughput and low latency will eliminate the need for disparate technologies such as Fibre Channel and Infiniband. We are very pleased with the strong customer acceptance and traction we are attaining through these partnerships in Japan.”

Chelsio is announcing partnerships with the following Japanese companies:

  • Digital Technologies Corp., a leading system integrator in HPC, storage and high security networks
  • Netmarks, a premier distributor of networking, storage and VoIP systems
  • Best Systems, a leading supplier of high performance computing solutions to the scientific research community
  • Core Micro Systems, Inc, which is focused on high speed and large capacity data storage technology

Digital Technologies Corporation (DTC) provides total system solutions centered around Unix client-server systems with network and storage backup. DTC gathers the latest products and information through its U.S. subsidiary, Digital Technologies Marketing Corp., to offer the best possible computer and networking systems and solutions to its customers. DTC will distribute and integrate Chelsio’s full line of products in Japan.

“DTC is focused on providing complete solutions including products, system integration and support to our high performance computing customers,” said Shinji Kawabata, sales manager, Digital Technologies Corporation. “Chelsio provides the highest performance solutions for Ethernet connectivity that are robust, reliable and available today.”

Netmarks will fulfill and support Chelsio’s full range of adapter cards and protocol acceleration technology within Japan. Netmarks subsidiary i-Netmarks will distribute Chelsio products in Singapore and Malaysia.

“Netmarks is a leading distributor and systems integrator in the server, storage and IP networking arena in Japan,” said Yuichi Arai, vice president of Server Storage Business Unit, Netmarks, Inc. “We have been very impressed with the performance and robustness of Chelsio’s 10Gb Ethernet and iSCSI products and we see a large market for their products within our customer base.”

Best Systems completed the integration of the AIST Cluster and is a leading supplier of high performance computing solutions to the Japanese scientific research community. Chelsio technology will be integrated into10Gb Ethernet clusters designed by Best Systems.

“Our customers demand leading-e dge performance from our cluster computing systems,” said Katsuya Nishi, CEO, Best Systems, Inc. “Chelsio’s 10Gb Ethernet adapters with protocol offload technology provide the performance boost our customers have been looking for to stay ahead in the high performance computing cluster marketplace.”

Core Micro Systems provides a wide range of products and solutions and has extensive experience in the data storage marketplace in Japan. CMS is integrating Chelsio’s 10Gb Ethernet products into its advanced ultra-high-speed data storage systems.

“CMS is delivering on its vision of a digital media society by providing industry-leading products and technologies for the storage and communication of data using the internet protocol,” said Shozo Takahashi, founder and chairman of Core Micro Systems. “Chelsio’s vision of convergence of storage, networking and clustering technology on a single platform is highly complementary, and they are the only supplier delivering this vision today with their 10 Gbps Ethernet protocol offload solution.”

The T110 10GbE Protocol Engine dramatically improves application performance in grid and cluster computing environments by offloading processor-intensive network and storage protocol stacks from overburdened processors, returning processing cycles to the application to enhance overall system performance. Ethernet technology lowers the total cost of ownership by leveraging existing resources and IT networking expertise. The Chelsio product offerings provide superior price performance when compared to niche technologies such as Infiniband or Fibre Channel.
