CHELSIO RECEIVES 2005 INNOVATION AWARD FROM NETWORK MAGAZINE FOR MOST VISIONARY SERVER PRODUCTS
10GbE TOE Again Outperforms Infiniband; New Price To Drive Wide Adoption
SUNNYVALE, CA, MAY 2, 2005 – Chelsio Communications, Inc., the established leader in 10-Gigabit Ethernet server and storage adapters and protocol acceleration technology, has announced that it has received the 2005 Innovation Award from CMP Media LLC’s Network Magazine in the technology category “Most Visionary” for server products.
The award is in recognition of Chelsio’s T110-CX 10GbE Protocol Engine, the industry’s first and only 10Gb Ethernet adapter for copper media, supporting the IEEE 10GBASE-CX4 standard. The T110-CX Protocol Engine is a high performance, protocol-offloading 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapter for servers and storage systems, supporting 10GBASE-CX twinax copper cabling. With on-board hardware that offloads the CPU-intensive TCP/IP and iSCSI protocol processing from its host system, the T110-CX delivers high throughput while returning precious CPU cycles to the application to enable superior overall system efficiency and performance. The T110-CX can sustain near line-rate performance using standard 1500-byte Ethernet frames even with a single processor system, with plenty of CPU cycles available for application processing on the server. The T110-CX also delivers the lowest latency – under 10 microseconds – of any Ethernet adapter in the world, making it an attractive solution for high-performance cluster computing.
Art Wittmann, editor-in-chief of Network Magazine, said “Network Magazine’s mission is to look beyond the technologies and methodologies that are hot today, concentrating instead on the architectures that will dominate IT a couple years from now. Given that, the winners of the 2005 Innovation Awards are true innovators that we believe will change the rules of the game. These are innovations that will enable IT organizations to substantially better meet the needs of their business.”
Chelsio was the first vendor to support TOE, iSCSI and RDMA at 10Gbps, the first to use CX4 copper cabling, and the first to drop end-to-end latency below the magic 10-microsecond threshold over Ethernet. Chelsio has already released its second generation family of protocol offload adapters.
Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO of Chelsio, said “We are honored that Network Magazine has chosen to recognize Chelsio’s innovative protocol offload technology and more importantly, the market applicability of our highest-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters.”
David Greenfield, executive editor, said “Innovation on its own means nothing unless it can be harnessed to deliver new or improved business strategies. The best innovations align technological creativity with business needs to create a business-optimized IT network. It’s in this spirit that the editors of Network Magazine have come together to honor the most important and creative innovations of the year.”
